Curriculum

Your child will be learning lots of new things throughout the school year. Butler County has adopted a Reading Curriculum that we will follow. The reading program is called “Read It Again Pre-K” and teaches basic phonemic awareness and story retelling. Seal Elementary recently adopted a new math curriculum called Bridges Math. I also use Handwriting without Tears to teach handwriting. I follow the Handwriting without tears order when teaching letters (that’s why we start with letter L- it is the easiest letter to make!). I also use an additional phonemic awareness curriculum by Michael Heggerty to teach sounds in words and how to pull words apart and put them back together (essential skills for learning how to read!). I purchased a super cool Science Discovery Chest from Lakeshore to teach Science with (lots of hands on experiments!) and we will also be learning a lot about process art- which is art that focuses on the PROCESS of making things and not the end product. Your child will still make fun penguins and bunnies… just not as many. You will find more abstract art coming home made completely on their own! J

Power of Play

I believe in the power of play and know how important it is for our young students to play! Your child will have at least 30 minutes of unstructured playtime in centers and 20 minutes of outdoor play *weather permitting* each day! We combine with Ms. Perkins’ class for play; students are encouraged to go between classrooms to play!
