At-Risk 4 Year Old Program Peer Model requirements:

  • The child must reside in the Douglass School District (proof of address will be required).
  • Applications must be submitted by March 1, 2022 to be considered.

If you are interested in a role model position for your child, please fill out an application and turn it into the Seal Elementary office by March 1st.  A teacher will call to set up a date and time for your child to attend one session as a trial during the week of March 21st- 24th. The children who meet the criteria of a good role model student will be drawn using a lottery system through Butler County Special Education cooperative. A letter will be sent out by the end of March letting you know if your child was accepted or not as a role model student. Limited spots are available.

About our programs: The 4 Year Old At-Risk program is designed for 4 year old students who meet certain qualifications for free preschool. The program is taught by Ms. Perkins. The Early Childhood Special Education program serves students ages 3-5 with various special needs or abilities and is taught by Mrs. Webber. Both classrooms focus on academic skills as well as social/emotional, fine/gross motor, speech/language, and self-help skills which will help prepare your students for Kindergarten.

Douglass also offers a Fee based Pre-Kindergarten class, Jump Start to Kindergarten. It is designed for 4 year olds who are toilet trained. It is $115/month.

*These applications are intended for Role Model students only. This does not replace Preschool Round-Up on April 7th. If your student will qualify for the At-Risk Program or if you wish to have your child attend the Jump Start to Kindergarten (fee based) Pre-K program, there isn’t a need to apply for a role model position. If you have concerns with your child’s development, schedule a screening at the next Douglass Child Find screening at 316-775-6904.

Kindergarten - If your child is already on the list for kindergarten, you will not need to do anything further until walk-in enrollment at the end of the summer break.

New students not on our round-up list who will be 5 years old on or before August 31, 2022, please call the Central Office at 747-3300 so that we can put them on the kindergarten list. This will allow us to make plans for teachers and purchase materials for the new school year. We will need the following information:

  • Student Name
  • Parent(s) Name
  • Student’s Date of Birth
  • Residential Address
  • Phone Number
  • Parent email

Preschool – If you have a student who will be 4 years old on or before August 31, 2022, your child may enroll in one of Ms. Perkins’ classes. If your family qualifies for one of the at-risk categories, there is no fee for the class. If you do not, there will be a monthly fee for Ms. Perkins 4-year old Pre-K of $115. What factors qualify your family for this class at no cost? The following criteria are considered at-risk and qualify your child for the program at no cost:

  • Single parent household
  • One or more parent does not hold a high school diploma or GED
  • One or more parent was a teen at the time of the child’s birth
  • Family qualifies for the federal free lunch program
  • English is not the primary language spoken in your home
  • Child has a developmental delay as documented through a standardized assessment
  • Referral from the Department for Children and Families
  • Child qualifies for migrant status

If you would like to add your child to the list for Ms. Perkins 4 year old class, please call the Central Office at 747-3300. We will need the same information as listed above for kindergarten students.

Finally – students may qualify for 3 year old or 4 year old Early Childhood Special Education Pre-K. This class is for students who have a developmental delay. Students qualify for this class by first attending a screening and then being evaluated for an Individualized Education Plan (IEP). Mrs. Webber teaches this class, and you may call the Butler County Interlocal at 775-6904 to sign your child up for a screening. If your child is a 3 year old with an IEP who attended Mrs. Webber’s class this school year, we have automatically added them to her class as a 4 year old for next year. ***Role Model applications for these classes are currently being processed and will be entered into the lottery system. Families will know who was chosen by early June. Questions about our Pre-K programs may be emailed to Principal Kim McCune at kmccune@usd396.net.
