Welcome to Fourth Grade!

I am very excited to be working with your students this year! This is my 5 ½ year teaching at Seal Elementary, my 2nd year in 4th grade! I graduated from Wichita State University in 2013 with my Bachelors in Elementary Education. I feel blessed to have the opportunity to work for this wonderful district and I look forward to a fantastic year!

Class Dojo:

In fourth grade we use a web-based program called Class Dojo to help track students’ behavior. In Class Dojo, students can earn points for positive behavior and can also lose points for negative behavior. Once you have joined our class you will be able to check your child’s progress anytime. (There is even an app!) This is a great way as a parent for you to have instant access to how your child is doing. I also use Class Dojo to put out weekly updates in our classroom. I will send out any important dates coming up and what we are doing for the week. More information about how to log on to Class Dojo will be provided.

Daily 5:

This year 4th grade is trying something new! Instead of using a basal (text book) for reading curriculum we will be doing novel studies. This means students will not have weekly reading and spelling tests. They will be working on grammar, vocabulary words, spelling patterns and comprehension skills throughout each novel. We are focusing on mastering the 4th grade standards through rich literature in

small groups.

Snacks:

Students may bring one healthy snack to eat in class each day during our break time. This is not required, but an option for them. Please limit the snack size to “sandwich bag” serving sizes.

Examples: goldfish, crackers, cheese sticks, granola bars, carrots etc. Please be courteous of peanut allergies by avoiding snacks that contain them.

Chromebooks:

3rd-5th grade has the opportunity this year to have one to one Chromebooks for our students! We are extremely excited about this! This will give us the opportunity to use technology during centers and research projects. They will only be able to use these at school and will not be allowed to take them home. I am looking forward to all the new things we will get to do this year because of this!
