Second grade is studying fairy tales and folk tales and modern adaptations of them. We've finished Cinderella and are currently enjoying "The Emperor's New Clothes".
Third graders are reading "Snot Stew" by Bill Wallace. It is told in first person. Since it is told from the point of view of a farm cat, we are enjoying the story from a different point of view, but one they can all relate to.

Preschool and Kindergarten classes are listening to picture books. They are engaging in dialog about the books, sharpening their communication skills.
First graders are reading folk tales. Some are new. Some are familiar. We're talking about the oral tradition and how the same story can be told differently. From time to time, they will act out some of the tales, adding their own ideas and twists.

BOOK FAIR
Thank you for supporting our book fair. We made $421.
This money funds our movie loan program.
The Buy One - Get One Free fair is in May.

Fourth grade is reading The King of Prussia and a Peanut Butter Sandwich. It is the true story of how Turkey Red Wheat was brought to Kansas. One of the outcomes for our students is to know the contributions immigrants brought to our state.
Fifth graders are reading a fiction book, studying the characters. We're noting how their lives form who they are and how future experiences and other characters influence them.
