Four Blocks

Guided Reading Block–

We will be working on prefixes, summarizing, fact and opinion, and predicting. Our text structure focus is sequence of events, and cause/effect.

Math

We continue our Accelerated Math program where the students works at their own pace. You can easily check their daily progress by looking at their TOPS report everyday. This report is stapled to the top of their math papers everyday.

We are doing one and two minute time tests on division this week and multiplication next week.

We are learning the Shurley sentence, noun, verb, adverb, adjective, and direct object jingles. Please see the back of the newsletter for the jingles, and be sure to practice them at home.

We are also working on our poetry books to be published.  We will be writing a Haiku this week.

Science

The students will be studying animals with backbones, and animals without backbones.  The kids are enjoying science lab with Mrs. Hopkins where they are studying monocot and dicot seeds.

Spelling

There will be a test on Friday, November 14. Monday, Nov. 17 we will pretest and start lesson 8.

Please check your child’s agenda for their spelling lists. The words they will be tested over will be highlighted.

S.S.

The Geo quiz this week is over the northeast region of the United States. The students will get a study guide on Monday and take the test on Wednesday. They will continue to take the same test until we start a new region. They will get the best score they received during the time period of the test. We will test over chapter 3 and begin chapter 4.
