Reading Bags
Every week of the first semester your child will have an opportunity to take home one of the classroom reading bags! In it you will find two books, a stuffed animal, and a journal. On your student's night, enjoy the two books and have your child draw/write about their favorite book on one page of the journal. Use this time to ask questions about the book to your child. This will help build their vocabulary and their comprehension skills. Be sure to send the bag right back so that the next student can have their turn the next day!
If your student does not bring back the bag three different times, then the bags will no longer be sent home with them.
Here is a list of questions you might ask before, during, or after reading the book:
- What do you think this book will be about?
- Do you think this book is fiction or non-fiction?
- What do you predict will happen next?
- Who are the characters in the book?
- What was the setting of the book?
- What was the problem in the book?
- What was the solution to the problem?
- What were the events in the story?
